Captain George Lang

George Lang was one of the thirteen children of Isaac Lang Sr. Captain George was first the Captain of the Camden County Chasseurs, an old Camden County Militia Company with it's origins in the wars of Indian removals of the 1830s. When the civil war broke out, Captain George organized and enlarged this company and it was incorporated into the Confederacy as Company F of the 3rd GA Battalion. In the reorganization in the spring of 1862, this company became Company D of the fourth Georgia Calvary. Soon after it's reorganization, Captain George was forced to retire due to his age and ill health and was replaced by John Reddick. But his will to fight must have been strong for according to his Confederate pay vouchers he served for somewhat over a month as a Private in this company under the new Captain and his nephew, Alex a Lieutenant at the time. Captain George was then appointed Patrol Commissioner for the South side of the Great Saltila River. This position was to guard against Northern forgers coming up the River to raid the plantations.
